More than Heroes—They're Family
They paid the supreme sacrifice, but they were more than just soldiers—they were sons, brothers, cousins, some were even husbands and fathers. Many of them have well documented genealogies. You may not know it, but you might be related.
The Town of Cardston has tracked down the genealogy records for all of Cardston's Fallen Heroes using the worlds largest free online genealogy website—Family Search—and have created a new community group on Relative Finder. Relative Finder is a Family Search compatible solution that can search your family tree to find common ancestors. If you have a free Family Search account, you can login and see which fallen heroes you’re related to in the “Cardston’s Fallen Heroes” Community Group.
Canadian Fallen Heroes Foundation
Since 2012, the Town of Cardston has collaborated with the Canadian Fallen Heroes Foundation to ensure that all its veterans are honored and memorialized, contributing to a important project of remembrance.
The Canadian Fallen Heroes Foundation honors the lives of Canada’s fallen heroes, who were more than just soldiers—they were sons, daughters, husbands, and fathers. These individuals came from all parts of Canada, representing cities, towns, and hamlets, some of which no longer exist. Thousands of names are inscribed on cenotaphs from coast to coast, many belonging to the young who never had the chance to return home. It’s difficult to comprehend the depth of their sacrifice, as each name represents not just the loss of a soldier, but also the life that was and the life that could have been.
Since 2003, the Canadian Fallen Heroes Foundation has worked with both private and public organizations to preserve the memory of these soldiers. Their mission is to humanize each fallen hero, offering glimpses into their lives and ensuring their memory lives on through memorials. They have created oak-framed and metal art prints displayed in over 500 communities across Canada. Additionally, thousands of heroes are recognized and accessible through their online database, found by visiting the "In Memoriam" section on their website. Here, visitors can search for heroes by name or by the town they once called home.
The foundation extends deep gratitude to the countless supporters and volunteers who make this project possible. As a registered charitable organization, they are humbled by the unwavering support received, knowing that they could not have achieved this without it.
While no tribute can ever repay the debt owed to these heroes, the Canadian Fallen Heroes Foundation is committed to ensuring that every one of them is remembered.
