New Pickleball Courts Now Open in Cardston
August 16 2024The Town of Cardston is pleased to announce the opening of our brand-new tennis and pickleball courts at Town Square, a project made possible through a collaborative effort between the Province of Alberta, The Town of Cardston, Cardston County, and the Cardston and County Pickleball Association (CCPA). These courts are set to become a wonderful addition to our community, offering a space for locals and visitors alike to enjoy this growing sport.
A Collaborative Effort
The development of the "Cardston Courts" is a testament to what can be achieved through strong partnerships. The CCPA played a crucial role in securing a significant portion of the funding for this project through the Community Facility Enhancement Program (CFEP), which contributed $61,600. Additional support came from the Town, which provided $63,000, and the County, which added $25,000. The accrued interest on the CFEP funds will also go towards supporting the project, ensuring that it serves our community for years to come.
Quality Construction for Quality Play
The construction of the courts was a carefully planned process to ensure they meet the highest standards. Initial work included repairing cracks in the existing asphalt, drilling holes for net and fence posts, and applying a new asphalt layer over the old one to create a hardened, stable base. The courts have been finished with a professional, competition-quality Plexipave surface, designed to offer the best playing experience. To maintain the quality of the surface, the facility is restricted to pickleball and tennis play only, meaning no wheels—like scooters, skateboards, or bikes—are allowed.
A Facility for Everyone
The "Cardston Courts" feature six dedicated pickleball courts and one tennis court with pickleball lines painted within it. The courts are enclosed with divider fencing to ensure safe and enjoyable play. We welcome players of all ages and skill levels to use the courts, which are open daily from 7 am to 9 pm. These hours have been set with respect to the surrounding residences.
The facility will be open seasonally, with opening and closing dates dependent on the weather. For those who prefer to plan ahead, courts can be booked in advance by contacting the Town, and signage will be posted when courts are reserved.
Grand Opening Event
To celebrate the opening, we invite everyone to join us on Thursday, August 22nd, for the grand opening of the courts. The CCPA has organized a tournament that will commence following the grand opening and continue into the following day, offering a great opportunity for both seasoned players and newcomers to see the game in action. More information about the event and how to participate can be found on the CCPA Facebook Page.
We look forward to seeing you on the courts and hope these new facilities will become a hub of activity and community spirit for both our residents and visitors. Whether you're a long-time player or just curious about the game, the "Cardston Courts" are ready to welcome you.
