Mammoth Point Disc Golf Course Set to Open This Fall

October 3 2024

The Town of Cardston is excited to announce the opening of the Mammoth Point Disc Golf Course, a brand-new 24-hole course nestled in the scenic Lee Creek Valley Park. This ambitious project is the result of a successful collaboration between the Town, designer Craig Burrows-Johnson (CBJ), and a dedicated team of local volunteers.

CBJ, who has designed dozens of top-rated disc golf courses across Canada—including the Nicholas Sheran Park Disc Golf Course in Lethbridge—first approached the Town in 2021 with the concept for a course in Cardston. Since then, the course has gradually taken shape, with construction progressing as labor, materials, and funding became available.

A Community Effort

The construction of Mammoth Point Disc Golf Course was a community effort. Volunteers and workers cleared the area of brush, deadfall, stumps, and stones to prepare the landscape. To ensure long-term sustainability and ease of maintenance, topsoil was used to build up and level the fairways. The project also included the construction of pathways and other course features, providing a polished and accessible playing experience for all.

The final touches included the installation of tee markers and baskets, setting the stage for the opening of one of the most challenging and scenic disc golf courses in Canada.

A Unique Recreational Experience

Once completed, the Mammoth Point Disc Golf Course will be one of the highlights of Lee Creek Valley Park, which offers stunning views of Chief Mountain and a variety of recreational opportunities; including carriage and walking trails, a campground, and the popular C4 Mountain Bike Park.

Designed for players of all skill levels, the course provides a mix of challenging, professionally designed holes. With its tight fairways, mandos (mandatory routes), and out-of-bounds areas, the course promises an exciting experience for seasoned players while remaining accessible to newcomers.

Playing the Course

Although the course is playable, some final landscaping work and permanent signage will be added in 2025. In the meantime, the Town of Cardston invites players of all ages and skill levels to enjoy the course and provide their feedback. Feedback can be submitted using the form on the official Mammoth Point web page: cardston.ca/discgolf.
