Mayor’s Speech: Neighbor of the Year 2025 – Diandra Bruised Head

Good morning, everyone.

The following award celebrates the spirit of connection—the people who show up, reach out, and bring others together. The Neighbor of the Year Award recognizes someone whose presence quietly strengthens the fabric of our community—someone who builds not just friendships, but bridges.

This year’s recipient is someone who has done just that—and so much more. Please join me in recognizing Diandra Bruised Head, as our 2025 Neighbor of the Year.

Diandra has been a remarkable force in helping foster understanding, respect, and unity between the Town of Cardston and the Blood Tribe. For over a decade, there have been efforts—but no clear path—towards building lasting connection between our communities. And then, there was Diandra.

She has brought insight, determination, and heart into every conversation, working side by side with leaders to help communities that once stood apart begin to walk forward together. She hasn’t merely attended meetings—she has brought meaning to them. She doesn’t just talk about collaboration—she lives it. And through her guidance, patience, and quiet strength, she is helping to lay a foundation for something truly important: relationship.

As a councilor on Blood Tribe Council, Diandra has played an integral role in the development of our Memorandum of Understanding—a document that represents far more than words on paper. It represents progress. It represents hope. And it wouldn’t exist without her.

It’s hard to capture in a single speech all that Diandra has done behind the scenes. What we can say is this: she has helped us move forward with humility. She has helped us listen. She has helped us understand. And she has reminded us all what it truly means to be a good neighbour.

So today, on behalf of Town Council and the people of Cardston, it is my honour to thank you, Diandra—for moving mountains, for making space, and for helping us walk forward together.
