Business Licenses

Business Licenses

Everyone engaged in business in the Town of Cardston needs a Business License, from online salespeople and artisans to grocery stores. To apply for a business license just fill out the business license application (below) and fax it to the Town of Cardston 403-653-2499 or present the completed application at the Town Office located at 67 3rd Avenue W, during normal business hours. There is a fee associated with a business license, and the cost varies depending on the type of business being operated and where the business is operated from.

We have recently arrived at an arrangement with Cardston County whereby if you operate a business located in Cardston County and already have a Business License there, you do not need to get a Town Business License and vice versa.

Some businesses require approval from our Development Department to operate in Town before we can issue a business license. For example, if you are making changes to the building, if you will have a number of clients needing parking in a residential area, or other 'unusual' circumstances, you may need a specific permit. For information regarding development approvals and permits, please see go to the Real Estate, Maps and Permits page and call us at 403-653-3366.

If you have questions, please give us a call at 403-653-3366.

Business Licensing Bylaw

No person shall, within the limits of the Town of Cardston, carry on or be engaged in any business unless he or she holds a valid and subsisting business license issued pursuant to the provisions of the Town of Cardston Business Licensing Bylaw #1667 and to any or all amendments thereto.

This includes any home-based businesses where all business is conducted over the phone, or online.

In addition to a business license, home-based businesses also require zoning approval, as not all land use districts are approved for home-based businesses. They, therefore, require the discretion of the Municipal Planning Commission for approval.
